The Parkland Fly Patterns
Many visitors to the Parkland region often wonder what fly patterns they should bring–or tie. Like anywhere else in the fly fishing world some patterns are better suited than others.
There are those that should be in every fly box–patterns like the Golden Muddler, the Hare’s Ear, the Trueblood Otter Shrimp and an assortment of black, olive and other favorite wooly buggers–with and without bead heads. Those patterns are well reported upon elsewhere so we’ll concentrate on creations we’ve found to work well on stillwaters– in the Parkland or elsewhere. Yes, most of them are very effective anywhere in the world where water flows, slows or stops flowing altogether — like in lakes.
